CBD: therapeutic virtues
It can be deduced from the above that the difference between CBD and THC is not only in the effects produced by the two substances. It mainly deals with the health consequences.
While THC is still considered a drug (even a mild one) in most countries because of its psychoactive effects, its tendency to be addictive and, in general, the risks it poses to the body, it is the exact opposite of CBD.CBD and THC have one thing in common: they come from the hemp plant. Both are therefore cannabinoids, i.e. active chemicals that act on body receptors (nervous system, organs, immune system, etc.).
However, they are opposites in many ways because, unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD) poses no health risks.
CBD and THC: what are the differences?
Cannabis is a complex product, made up of several hundred molecules – “cannabinoids” – all with their specific properties. The most famous nonetheless remains THC, for tetrahydrocannabinol, the active substance known for its psychotropic effects.
It is THC that helps to alter the consumer’s state of consciousness, making them “fly” or, as they say, “high”. In short, when we talk about recreational cannabis use, it is usually a product rich in THC that we are referring to.
This way, you should not confuse THC and CBD. Cannabidiol is another cannabis molecule, but it does not have the same purpose.
Although it has a sedative effect, it acts against THC to limit its properties, including calming the nervous system. At some point, CBD can delay the effects of THC and increase it tenfold, but limiting the risks of “intoxication” (anxiety and anxiety sometimes caused by THC consumption). In other words, CBD has no psychotropic effects.
Cannabidiol has, in fact, major therapeutic virtues. The potential seems huge because CBD has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, fights anxiety and depression, soothes the symptoms of epilepsy and multiple sclerosis, acts against certain psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia), etc.
Some studies even suggest that in high concentrations, CBD acts as an inhibitor in the proliferation of tumor cells in certain types of cancer and reduces the risk of arterial necrosis after a heart attack. Research in this area is only just beginning, but the prospects are immense.
Another major difference between CBD and THC: studies to date tend to show that CBD is not addictive and is non-toxic, unlike THC.
As such, cannabidiol-based products with a THC level of less than 0.3% are authorized for sale in the European Union. But there is no question of pointing out the differences between CBD and THC, nor of extolling the therapeutic benefits of the former.
In Romania, CBD cannot be considered a medicine and must remain what it is officially: a dietary supplement. But a supplement that does great good to people who suffer!
