CBD - Did You Know That?

CBD and Acne – How Can It Help You?

What is Acne?

Almost every one of us has experienced a sudden onset of blackheads or acne, however, acne is more than that. It is most common during adolescence, but acne can occur at any other age.

Acne is a skin condition caused by oils in the skin- sebum flow blockages in the pores. As a result of blockages, the microflora of the skin, Propionibacterium acnes, causes an inflammatory reaction, which appears in the form of a mild to severe rash.

Although acne is one of the most common conditions, there is still a lack of information about it. The exact reasons are still unknown, but researchers have discovered four key issues:

– heredity;

– hormones;

– menstruation;

– emotional stress.

Acne is mainly caused by hormones. The myth is that diet and other lifestyle factors, including tidiness and sexual activity, can be causes of acne. In rare cases, sensitivity to a particular food can exacerbate acne, but food does not actually cause it.

Heredity is sometimes suspected of causing acne. Several medications can also cause acne; the main “villains” are steroids and other hormonal agents, iodine preparations, lithium and anticonvulsants. Often, acne is caused by stress, mainly due to changes in hormone levels in the body.

You may have tried dozens of products in the hope of finding a solution. While some may work, the skin often stops responding after a while; some of them can dry the skin, creating a whole new set of problems; at worst, some products don’t work at all.

CBD oil can treat blackspots and acne

For thousands of years, people have used natural procedures to promote beautiful and healthy skin. An option is cannabidiol (CBD), a compound derived from the cannabis plant. derived from the cannabis plant.

There is evidence to suggest that CBD oil may be beneficial in the prevention of acne. Of course, each case may vary slightly depending on what kind of acne a person has and what causes it.

CBD oil can help to reduce various types of acne due to its ability to adapt how much sebum the body produces. Sebum is a waxy, greasy substance formed by the skin. It helps to protect our skin from the outside world. However, it can also mix with dead skin cells, dirt or other contaminants and get stuck in the pores. The clogged pores then inflame.

Most acne and CBD studies are concerned with the ability of CBD to stop processes known to cause acne, such as excess sebum buildup. One of the most promising studies was published in The Clinic Investigation. In this study, researchers in the laboratory-measured the effects of CBD compounds on human skin and sebum-producing glands. The researchers found that CBD inhibits sebum production and has anti-inflammatory effects on sebum-producing glands. They concluded that CBD was a “promising therapeutic remedy” for acne.

Because CBD oil has anti-inflammatory properties, it can reduce the appearance of inflamed acne, but can also reduce acne redness and swelling. In fact, CBD oil affects the endocannabinoid system in a way that can actually inhibit sebum production, reducing the likelihood of acne outbreaks before they occur.

In addition, CBD oil has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent that further supports its potential to prevent acne from the start.

How does CBD Oil reduce inflammation?

Part of what makes CBD oil so effective in treating acne is that it reduces the occurrence of inflammation and affects the processes leading to inflammation.

As in other parts of the body, the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors are present in the sebum glands and hair follicles. These receptors interact with the central nervous system, and CBD has been shown to activate the CB2 receptor, which is responsible for controlling pain and inflammation.

CBD can also reduce the likelihood of inflamed and damaged skin due to its effect on keratinocytes (skin cells that produce keratin, the main building block of hair). A 2019 study examining the effects of CBD on keratinocytes exposed to UV radiation showed both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The study concludes that the antioxidant effects of CBD as well as its anti-inflammatory properties should be taken into account when developing new skin protections.

Does CBD also affect body acne?

Because body acne occurs just like facial acne, CBD-containing products could also help reduce body acne. Generally, CBD products may not be specifically positioned as a remedy for body acne, their antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties may provide some benefit to this or that.

You definitely have a question, but what about acne scars?

Acne scars are caused by skin disorders caused by increased acne and skin healing processes.

One study, published in La Clinica Terapeutica, looked at 20 participants who had scars associated with psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. Participants applied CBD-enriched ointment to the affected areas of the scar twice daily for three months. After a three-month period, the researchers found that CBD ointment significantly improved the condition of the skin, such as elasticity and hydration.

Although the study was small and was not conducted with those who have acne scars directly, we can say that CBD products could help reduce the reduction of acne scars.

Are there any drawbacks?

Studies have shown that the most commonly reported side effects were fatigue, diarrhea and changes in appetite. However, these side effects are rare, but occur mainly in people who take drops of CBD oil internally and less so in those who take it locally.

Very rarely, but it is possible that a person may experience an allergic reaction to locally used CBD. If you develop symptoms such as swelling, itching or flaking of the skin after applying CBD-containing products, wash the affected area with soap and water. You can use cold compresses to soothe irritated skin. Be sure to stop using CBD products if you think you have had an allergic reaction.

What about other skin problems?

CBD can also be helpful in preventing other skin problems. Here are some examples: psoriasis, atopic and seborrheic dermatitis, also itchy and irritated skin. But about that in another post on our blog.

In conclusion

It is important to use high quality products from a well-known and trusted brand for the best results.

Unlike other anti-acne remedies, most people have little or no side effects, making CBD an attractive option for possible acne.

Dermatologists need more extensive research to make clear that CBD products are effective in treating acne. While researchers are still in the process of doing so, studies in smaller laboratories have shown promising results.
